This is something that I have been saying for some time, tragedy is good for our economy. NOW, before you send me death threats, let me explain just a little bit.
The “Super storm” Sandy, very devastating, and has affected hundreds of people. BUT, on the plus side, the Federal Government will send money to help rebuild, well that pays contractors, and construction tradesmen, that feeds their families, pays for family needs, which in turn pays the people that own the stores, gas, vehicles, etc. Good for the economy.
Take the tragedy of the school shooting in Connecticut. Because of that event, the sales of ammo, guns, and other “personal protection” items that one may buy. It also triggers the demand for training classes of RESPONSIBLE people who want to protect themselves from these crazies who intend to cause harm to innocent people.
This is ALSO good for the economy, guns made in the US, ammo, also made in the USA creates jobs, secures jobs that are already here. Distributors, gun shows, makers of “bling” for firearms (scopes, laser sights, grips, etc) are also buying more items, and selling more, ie, good for the economy.
Now, I am not a harsh, heartless person, I am just being realistic. There are always 2 sides to every coin, and every study can be “skewed” to meet/say anything that you want. Lawmakers are going to “protect” our citizens by passing, or try to pass, new laws on gun control. Problem is, laws are good, and they work, if, and ONLY IF, people follow the law. Criminals are NOT going to follow any laws, and if they are going to cause harm, they are going to do so, regardless of what the laws say.
So consider this, look at Chicago, they have some of the strictest gun laws anywhere. Their crime rate is UP higher than anywhere else. So do laws work, with this example I would have to say no. NOW, on the other side of the coin, look at the country of Sweden, 98% of their citizens are armed, they have the LOWEST crime rate in the WORLD! I believe that if criminals know that someone is ARMED and can defend themselves, they will choose someone else as a victim! If 98% of the people are capable of defending themselves, who are the criminals going to target? Hence, the crime rate goes down.
This is just my $.02 for what it is worth!
As the old saying goes, guns don’t kill people, people kill people, regardless of what the laws are!
